Hanna J. Broome, PhD

Hanna Johnson Broome, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. A native of Madison, MS, she received her BS in biological sciences from Mississippi College. She taught high school for two years before returning to school at UMMC in the Department of Biochemistry.
Broome earned her PhD in Biochemistry under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Hebert, and then joined Dr. Michael Ryan’s lab as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at UMMC. She accepted her first faculty position as assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Mississippi College, where she spent four years teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in biology, genetics and anatomy.
Currently, Dr. Broome is the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Recruitment in the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences.
